Rolph Balgobin | Founder and Current Chairman of The Oxbridge International School
Rolph Balgobin is the founder and current chairman of The Oxbridge International School (OXIS) and has also been the executive chairman of Quicksilver Convenience Limited since 2008 and the executive chairman of The Corporate Turnaround Company since 2019. Between 2016 and 2019, Dr Balgobin was the chairman of Tobago Plantations Limited, Home Construction Limited, Tru Valu Limited, Caribbean Petrochemical Limited, Caribbean Dockyard Limited, Angostura Limited and CL Financial Limited.

Dr Balgobin’s Research
Formerly a columnist for the Trinidad Express and Trinidad Guardian newspapers, Dr Balgobin has published research in academic journals on corporate governance and corporate turnaround. These include Influencing Development – Leadership and Governance in Trinidad and Tobago (2012), Global Governance Practice: The Impact of Measures Taken to Restore Trust in Corporate Governance Practice Internationally (2008), Stages in the Turnaround Process: The Case of IBM UK (2001) and What Do We Know About Corporate Turnarounds? (1998).

National Service
From 2015 to 2016 Dr Balgobin had a seat on Trinidad and Tobago’s Economic Development Advisory Board, and from 2015 to 2017 he was the president of the Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers Association. He was a member of the Trinidad and Tobago parliament’s Public Accounts Enterprises Committee from 2010 to 2015, and in 2015 he was also the chairman of the Joint Select Committee on National Security.
Dr Balgobin led the technical team charged with pulling together the Vision 2020 National Strategic Plan for Trinidad and Tobago and was formerly a member of the cabinet-appointed committee for the review of the Government Assisted Tertiary Education (GATE) programme and the review and assessment of all special purpose and wholly owned state enterprises.

Education
Dr Balgobin holds postgraduate degrees from the University of Cambridge and Manchester University and advanced degrees from the University of the West Indies, as well as a postgraduate diploma in corporate governance from the UK’s ACCA and a certificate and diploma in corporate governance from the Caribbean Corporate Governance Institute.
Personal Life
Married for 25 years and with three children, Dr Balgobin is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA), a Catholic lay minister and holds a black belt in Shotokan karate.
